Migration counseling for adult immigrants (MBE)

Migration counselling is based on the new Immigration Law, which came into force in 2005. It contains measures for the integration of people from abroad who have been living in Germany legally and for a longer period of time. The aim of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) is to support new immigrants in their integration process in Germany with the help of migration counselling.

The services offered by the Migration Counseling Service are basically aimed at people in the first three years after their immigration to Germany. It is also available beyond this period if there is still a need for integration. The target group for counselling is immigrants of all nationalities who are older than 27.

The staff of the Migration Counselling Service offer personal (initial) counselling in various languages (also at native-speaker level) on topics such as German and integration courses, residence law issues, family reunion, family issues, questions about job possibilities and work, social benefits and housing.

The focus is on the individual abilities of each immigrant, which should enable them to become independently in all matters of daily life with the help of needs-oriented support services. Case management is the central instrument of the counseling.

Migration counseling is always free of charge and confidential.

There is a Hamburg-wide MBE network in which social welfare associations are involved and regularly exchange information.
